Toriyama sensei did a little concept work and mild supervision, but he only got the original author credit. Arguably Maekawa sensei did a fine job writing GT. Again, Toriyama sensei got to work on some concept art and inspired a couple ideas, but his credit was again original author. So, Toriyama sensei doesn't need to write Dragon Ball anymore than Stan Lee or Bob Kane need to write Spider-Man or Batman. We have the series thanks to them, but the material stands on its own and has taken a life of its own as such. Except that most of the movies were bad and GT was abysmal, so yeah, it's best that Toriyama is involved as much as can be.
